Amaravati, July 27: Andhra Pradesh has emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing renewable energy destinations after adding 3,865.63 MW (3.9 GW) of clean energy capacity during 2025-26, according to data tabled by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in the Lok Sabha. The figures, presented in response to an Unstarred Question by Dr M.K. Vishnu Prasad, show that the state’s renewable energy capacity addition was nearly four times higher than the 1,085.15 MW added during 2024-25, marking a significant turnaround in the sector.
The data highlights a dramatic improvement in the state’s renewable energy performance over the past few years. Andhra Pradesh added only 125.42 MW in 2021-22, 148.62 MW in 2022-23, and 59.15 MW in 2023-24. The momentum began to strengthen in 2024-25, when capacity additions crossed the 1 GW mark, before surging to nearly 3.9 GW in 2025-26. According to the state government, this rapid growth has been driven by investor-friendly policies, faster project approvals, improved implementation mechanisms and substantial investments in renewable energy infrastructure.
The remarkable increase has positioned Andhra Pradesh as a preferred destination for solar, wind and other renewable energy projects, supporting India’s broader transition toward clean and sustainable energy. The Union Government also informed Parliament that India has already achieved the milestone of sourcing 50% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources, reaching the target five years ahead of the 2030 deadline. The country remains on track to achieve its ambitious goal of 500 GW of installed non-fossil fuel-based electricity capacity by 2030, reinforcing its commitment to climate action and sustainable development.
The state government has also accelerated the implementation of its Integrated Clean Energy Policy, unveiled earlier this year, under which Andhra Pradesh aims to attract investments worth ₹10 lakh crore by 2029 across renewable energy, energy storage, green hydrogen, transmission infrastructure and manufacturing ecosystems. The expansion of clean energy capacity is expected to create new investment opportunities, generate employment, strengthen energy security and contribute significantly to the state’s long-term sustainable economic growth while supporting India’s clean energy ambitions.
With the addition of 3.9 GW of renewable energy capacity in 2025-26, Andhra Pradesh has strengthened its position as a leading clean energy destination, supporting India’s transition to a low-carbon economy while attracting investments and creating employment.
