New Delhi, July 07: A fresh spell of rain accompanied by thunderstorms swept across several parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday afternoon, bringing much-needed relief after days of oppressive heat and high humidity. The showers lowered temperatures and provided residents with a welcome break from uncomfortable weather conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for the national capital, forecasting light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. According to the weather department, monsoon activity is expected to remain active over the next few days, with intermittent showers likely across Delhi and adjoining regions.
Delhi began the day with a minimum temperature of 30°C, around 2.1°C above normal, making it one of the warmest July mornings in recent years. Before the rainfall, the relative humidity stood at 79 per cent, while the ‘feels-like’ temperature touched 44.7°C, resulting in extremely uncomfortable conditions.
The IMD has also forecast rainfall in parts of Haryana, including Kaithal, Rohtak and Sonipat, and in western Uttar Pradesh, covering Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Hapur, Pilkhua and Bulandshahr. Moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are expected to sustain monsoon activity across North India through July 9.
Despite the rainfall, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) remained in the ‘Moderate’ category at 110, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). However, the showers are expected to improve overall weather conditions and provide continued respite from the sultry spell.
Conclusion
The latest spell of monsoon rain has brought significant relief to Delhi-NCR, and with IMD forecasting more showers, residents can expect cooler temperatures and improved weather conditions over the coming days.
