Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the country’s first greenfield integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex at Pachpadra in Balotra district, Rajasthan, marking a significant milestone for India’s energy sector. The project is expected to strengthen energy security, enhance petrochemical production and generate employment across the region.

During the visit, the Prime Minister inspected the refinery’s advanced control room, interacted with engineers and technical experts, and reviewed the crude oil refining process. He also planted a sapling on the refinery campus after watching a documentary highlighting the project’s development journey.

Accompanied by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, and senior officials, Prime Minister Modi addressed a public gathering attended by nearly 5,000 people, including local residents, BJP workers, youth and women.

The Prime Minister also virtually laid the foundation stone for Jaipur Metro Phase 2, a major urban transport project aimed at improving public mobility in the state capital. The ceremony was simultaneously broadcast at Jaipur’s SMS Indoor Stadium, where senior political leaders and citizens participated.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport and launched the revamped UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) Scheme, reaffirming the government’s commitment to expanding regional air connectivity and strengthening India’s aviation infrastructure.

The refinery’s inauguration had been postponed in April following a fire incident in the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Vacuum Distillation Unit (VDU). Following restoration and safety clearances, the project has now been formally dedicated to the nation, reinforcing Rajasthan’s role as an emerging energy and industrial hub.

Conclusion

The inauguration of the Pachpadra refinery, Jaipur Metro Phase 2 and Jodhpur Airport’s new terminal reflects the government’s continued focus on infrastructure development, energy security and economic growth in Rajasthan.
