New Delhi, June 21: The 25th Silver Jubilee Edition of the Neyveli Book Fair 2026 continued to attract large crowds on its second day, with more than 5,500 students representing over 30 educational institutions visiting the fair on June 20. The impressive turnout underscored the growing popularity of the literary festival and reflected the success of the student-friendly initiatives introduced by NLC India Limited (NLCIL).

The overwhelming participation of students is being attributed to the decision introduced last year to provide completely free entry for all students, enabling greater access to books, educational resources and literary activities. The initiative aims to nurture reading habits among young people and foster a lifelong appreciation for literature and knowledge.

The evening programme at the Lignite Hall, located within the book fair premises, was marked by a grand literary and cultural event attended by distinguished guests, writers, publishers and book enthusiasts. The function was presided over by Shri Samir Swarup, Director (Human Resources), NLC India Limited.

The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. N. Panchanatham, Vice-Chancellor of the Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI). Addressing the gathering, Dr. Panchanatham emphasized the importance of cultivating reading habits among children and students. He noted that many great leaders throughout history were passionate readers and highlighted the role of books in shaping knowledge, leadership and character.

He also stressed the significance of book fairs as platforms that make quality literature accessible to a wider audience and serve as valuable resources for learning and personal development.

Joining the event as Guest of Honour, Thiru Bana Bihari Nayak, Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Apex Skill Development Centres for Logistics (TNASDCL), praised NLC India Limited for consistently organizing high-quality book fairs over the years. He commended the organization’s efforts in promoting literacy, education and intellectual engagement through such initiatives.

As part of the Neyveli Book Fair’s longstanding tradition of recognizing contributions to literature and publishing, eminent authors Dr. S. Thirunavukarasu and Shri R. Mohankumar were honoured for their outstanding literary achievements and contributions to the field of writing.

The event also recognized institutions that have played a significant role in promoting literature and reading culture. The National Book Trust (NBT), India, established by the Government of India to publish quality books in English and various Indian languages, was honoured during the function. M/s Nooleni Publications, a prominent Tamil publishing and literary platform, was also felicitated for its contribution to Tamil literature and publishing.

A special attraction of the evening was the release of two new literary works. The poetry collection “Anbukku Aayiram Kangal”, authored by Vasantha Radhakrishnan, and the short story collection “Aathichudi – Kadhaigal”, written by Thamizhmozhi Elango, were officially launched during the ceremony in the presence of literary enthusiasts and distinguished guests.

Adding a cultural dimension to the celebrations, renowned Mohiniyattam exponent Dr. Methil Devika presented a captivating dance performance that enthralled the audience. Her graceful presentation showcased India’s rich classical dance heritage and added vibrancy to the literary festival.

The Silver Jubilee edition of the Neyveli Book Fair continues to serve as a major platform for promoting reading, education, culture and intellectual engagement. With participation from leading publishers, authors, educational institutions and cultural personalities, the fair has reinforced its position as one of the most significant literary events in South India.

Conclusion

The strong participation of more than 5,500 students on Day 2 reflects the growing impact of the Neyveli Book Fair as a platform for nurturing reading habits and promoting knowledge among young learners.
