New Delhi, May 30: A Marshall Islands-flagged crude tanker, Nissos Keros, carrying around 270,000 metric tonnes of crude oil for India, has safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz and is expected to reach Visakhapatnam on June 3, according to an official update issued on Friday.

The development comes amid efforts to reassure markets about India’s energy security and uninterrupted fuel supplies, with authorities confirming that domestic refineries are operating at high capacity with adequate crude inventories.

Officials said sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel are available across the country, while domestic LPG production has been increased to around 52 thousand tonnes per day to support rising consumption.

In the past four days, oil marketing companies delivered about 1.80 crore LPG cylinders against 1.78 crore bookings, indicating stable supply chain performance. Online LPG bookings have also risen to nearly 99 per cent, while Delivery Authentication Code-based deliveries have increased to around 96 per cent, aimed at reducing diversion and ensuring transparency.

The government reiterated that there is no shortage of fuel, urging citizens to avoid panic buying and rely only on official information amid reports of crowding at petrol stations in some regions.

Authorities also advised LPG consumers to use digital booking systems and minimise physical visits to distributors, while encouraging a shift towards PNG connections and electric or induction cooking systems where possible.

All petrol pumps across the country are operating normally, though unusually high demand has been observed in select locations. Officials emphasised that adequate stocks of petrol and diesel are available nationwide.

The Centre has further directed states to monitor district-wise fuel consumption patterns, intensify inspections along key transport and industrial corridors, and take strict action against any diversion or misuse of retail fuel supplies by bulk consumers.
