Govt Debunks Aadhaar Redesign Rumours, Calls Viral Posts Misleading

Govt Debunks Aadhaar Redesign Rumours

New Delhi, May 04: The government on Sunday dismissed reports suggesting a redesign of Aadhaar cards into a simplified format, stating that no such proposal is under consideration. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology termed the claims misleading and cautioned against the spread of unverified information.

In an official statement, the ministry said reports indicating that Aadhaar cards could soon feature only a photograph and QR code are incorrect and have led to unnecessary public confusion.

Citizens have been advised to rely solely on verified updates from the Unique Identification Authority of India and official releases issued through PIB, while media outlets have been urged to avoid amplifying speculative claims.

The clarification comes amid widespread circulation of such reports on social media platforms. Authorities reiterated that no decision has been taken regarding any change in Aadhaar’s format.

The statement underscores the importance of Aadhaar as the world’s largest biometric identification system, with around 134 crore users and over 17,000 crore authentication transactions to date, playing a critical role in identity verification across services in India.
