New Delhi, May 01: India’s cooking gas supply remains stable despite global disruptions linked to tensions in the Middle East, with over 49.8 lakh domestic LPG cylinders delivered and 41.6 lakh fresh bookings recorded on April 30, according to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
The government said there have been no supply shortages at retail distributorships, even as concerns persist over disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz. Online LPG bookings now account for 98% of total demand, while authentication-based delivery systems have reached around 93%, helping curb diversion.
Retail prices of petrol and diesel remain unchanged, with adequate fuel stocks available nationwide. However, oil marketing companies are implementing calibrated price adjustments for select commercial fuels such as jet fuel and commercial LPG, in line with global trends.
To prevent hoarding and black marketing, authorities have intensified enforcement measures. More than 2,300 raids were conducted nationwide, resulting in penalties on 342 LPG distributorships and suspension of 73. Additional show-cause notices and penalties were issued to erring distributors.
The government also highlighted that over 43,200 Piped Natural Gas consumers have voluntarily surrendered LPG connections via the MYPNGD platform, easing pressure on LPG demand.
Officials said all refineries are operating at high capacity with sufficient crude inventories, while domestic LPG production has been ramped up to support consumption.
The ministry reiterated its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability and urged citizens to avoid panic buying, rely on official information sources, and use digital platforms for LPG bookings.
The developments underscore India’s efforts to maintain energy stability and supply resilience amid evolving global uncertainties.
