Visakhapatnam, April 29: N. Chandrababu Naidu, along with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, laid the foundation for Google’s India AI Hub in Visakhapatnam, marking one of the largest foreign direct investments in the country. The $15 billion project, to be developed with partners AdaniConneX and Airtel Nxtra, will feature a 1 GW data centre spread across nearly 600 acres.
The project is expected to position Andhra Pradesh as a key AI and data infrastructure hub, with the Chief Minister calling it a “game-changer” for the state’s digital economy and employment landscape. He urged stakeholders to target completion by September 2028, assuring full government support.
Union Minister Vaishnaw highlighted India’s growing strength in electronics manufacturing under the Make in India initiative and pitched the country as a trusted global technology partner amid geopolitical shifts. He also encouraged domestic manufacturing of servers to support large-scale data infrastructure.
The AI hub will be supported by three new sub-sea cable connections, enhancing India’s global connectivity and digital resilience. Google termed the investment its largest commitment to India’s digital future, aimed at building a full-stack AI ecosystem and accelerating the country’s transformation into a global technology and innovation hub.
