N. Chandrababu Naidu to Kick Off Google AI Data Centre Project in Vizag

Andhra Pradesh Notifies Five E-Mobility Cities in Big Green Push

Visakhapatnam, April 28: Google is set to invest $15 billion in a large-scale AI data centre project in Visakhapatnam, with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu scheduled to lay the foundation on April 28. The project is among the largest foreign direct investments in India’s technology sector.

The facility will span nearly 600 acres across Tharluwada, Adavivaram, and Rambilli regions, with a planned capacity of 1 gigawatt. It is expected to significantly boost India’s AI and cloud infrastructure capabilities while positioning Visakhapatnam as a major digital hub in Asia.

The project will benefit from upcoming subsea cable connectivity, enabling direct international data links. The coastal location is seen as ideal for submarine cable landing stations, supporting global data traffic and enhancing cloud service efficiency.

Key partners in the project include AdaniConneX and Airtel Nxtra, reflecting a collaborative push to build large-scale digital infrastructure.

Beyond infrastructure, the data centre is expected to generate thousands of jobs across AI, cloud operations, cybersecurity, and data science. It is also likely to catalyse investments in allied sectors such as power systems, cooling technologies, and semiconductor manufacturing.

The Andhra Pradesh government aims to scale this initiative into a multi-gigawatt digital ecosystem, targeting a total capacity of 6.5 GW across the state. Authorities are also working to ensure green energy supply for such projects, aligning with global sustainability goals.

With complementary infrastructure projects like the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport, Visakhapatnam is being positioned as a key node in the global technology and AI ecosystem, attracting startups, research centres, and global tech firms.
