New Delhi, Feb 26: NTPC Bongaigaon has extended CSR support to the Bodoland Sericulture Mission, a flagship initiative of the Bodoland Territorial Region Government launched in 2023 to transform the traditional silk sector into a sustainable, high-income livelihood ecosystem with a focus on Eri silk.
As part of the project “Promotion of Eri Silk and Handloom Village in Raimona National Park,” a Sales-cum-Display Counter was inaugurated on February 25, 2026, at Mothambil Forest Village, located near the national park.
The initiative is being implemented by the BTC Government in collaboration with the Department of Sericulture, with CSR support of ₹30 lakh from NTPC Bongaigaon.
The project directly benefits around 125 women (89 rearers and 36 weavers) and indirectly supports over 779 beneficiaries and more than 1,700 villagers in surrounding areas.
The newly constructed Sales-cum-Display Counter, built at a cost of ₹5.90 lakh in traditional Assam-type architecture, will enable women artisans to directly market Eri silk and handloom products, ensuring better value realisation.
The broader intervention includes Kesseru plantations for silkworm rearing, construction of rearing houses, provision of spinning machines, improved looms, quality Eri yarn supply and the creation of forward market linkages.
