New Delhi, Dec 20: Draft Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025, is crucial for advancing India’s power sector towards the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision, according to Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
The Bill aims to address challenges in the distribution segment and mandates cost-reflective tariffs while allowing state subsidies for priority consumers.
It seeks to enhance economic competitiveness by minimizing cross-subsidies, enabling large consumers to procure power competitively, and promoting renewable energy usage.
The Bill emphasizes regulatory governance, operational reforms, and the sharing of distribution networks to benefit consumers and improve service. Khattar reassured that there would be no negative impact on employees or consumer costs due to privatization concerns.
