New Delhi, Dec 16: India’s green hydrogen production capacity is projected to reach 5 million metric tonnes per annum by 2030, as reported to Parliament.
The National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) aims to position India as a global leader in green hydrogen production, use, and export. Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik, highlighted various incentives and manufacturing initiatives designed to lower production costs.
Fifteen companies have been awarded a total manufacturing capability of 3,000 MW per annum with incentives worth Rs 4,440 crore for electrolyser manufacturing, while 18 companies have secured a cumulative production capacity of 862,000 tonnes per annum for green hydrogen.
Additional incentives include exemptions from interstate transmission charges for 25 years for eligible plants and duty benefits under the Special Economic Zones Act for renewable energy equipment.
The Ministry is also funding a project to scale up perovskite tandem solar cell technology with an investment of Rs. 83.19 crore. Naik reiterated India’s commitment to achieving 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070, emphasizing the NGHM’s shift from planning to implementation with projects worth Rs 17,000 crore.
