New Delhi, Dec 16: Union Minister Jitendra Singh introduced the SHANTI Bill, 2025, in Parliament, aiming to expand India’s nuclear power capacity to 100 GW by 2047.
This Bill proposes to repeal the outdated Atomic Energy Act, 1962, and the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act, 2010, replacing them with a modern law that reflects current energy needs.
It emphasizes enhancing indigenous nuclear capabilities and enabling public-private partnerships to support clean energy objectives and India’s commitment to a decarbonized future by 2070.
Key provisions include regulations for nuclear safety, licensing, and a new civil liability framework, alongside institutional enhancements such as an Atomic Energy Redressal Advisory Council and a Nuclear Damage Claims Commission.
The SHANTI Bill represents a significant update in nuclear governance, balancing energy expansion with public safety and accountability.
