New Delhi, Dec 12: The price of LPG in India is significantly lower than in neighboring countries, with a 14.2 kg cylinder costing Rs 553 for PMUY beneficiaries and Rs 853 for regular consumers, compared to Rs 902.20 in Pakistan, Rs 1,227.58 in Sri Lanka, and Rs 1,205.72 in Nepal, as stated by Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
India imports 60% of its LPG, and despite a rise in international prices, domestic LPG rates were reduced by 22% recently. The government provides a Rs 300 subsidy per cylinder for PMUY consumers, leading to a 39% effective price reduction.
Efforts to improve accessibility have resulted in an increase in LPG distribution, particularly in rural areas, with 93% of new distributorships serving these communities, raising LPG coverage from 62% in 2016 to nearly full saturation now.
