PM Surya Ghar Hits 24% of 1-Crore Rooftop Solar Target

India’s Power Capacity Up 36% in 5 Years; Renewables Hit Record Growth

New Delhi, Dec 09: PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has successfully installed rooftop solar systems in 23,96,497 households, achieving approximately 23.96% of its goal to cover one crore households by FY 2026-27.

This demand-driven scheme allows residential consumers with grid-connected electricity to apply for installations through the National Portal. As of December 3, 2025, the initiative has seen a total of 53,54,099 applications and 19,17,698 installations nationwide.

The government aims to reach 35 lakh households by FY 2025-26 and is implementing measures such as online processes for registration and subsidy disbursal, providing collateral-free loans at concessional rates, and simplifying the regulatory approval process.

The scheme, launched on February 13, 2024, has a budget of Rs 75,021 crore, offering up to 300 units of free electricity monthly to beneficiaries.
