"Power will be the new currency" : REC CMD Jitendra Srivastava

New Delhi, Dec 07 REC Chairman and Managing Director Jitendra Srivastava on Saturday highlighted the rising strategic importance of energy in global growth, stating that “power will be the new currency” in the years ahead.

Speaking at National Conference on use of AI/ML in Power Distribution Sector, Srivastava said nations capable of generating, storing, and distributing reliable power will hold a decisive economic advantage. He emphasised that energy security is no longer just an infrastructure concern but a core component of national competitiveness.

According to him, the rapid rise of electric mobility, green hydrogen, and digital industries has sharply increased the value of uninterrupted power. “In the future, countries will be judged not only by financial strength but by their ability to ensure 24/7 sustainable energy,” he noted.

Srivastava added that REC is committed to driving India’s energy transition by supporting modern transmission systems, renewable projects, and grid expansion. He urged the sector to accelerate innovation to keep pace with global energy demands.

His remarks come at a time when India is looking to strengthen its energy infrastructure and position itself as a leader in clean and reliable power systems.
