Govt Withdraws Mandatory Sanchar Saathi Pre-Install Rule Following Strong Uptake

On December 3, the Indian government announced the withdrawal of the mandatory pre-installation requirement for the Sanchar Saathi app on smartphones.

This decision was made due to a significant increase in voluntary downloads, with 1.4 crore users registered and nearly 2,000 fraud incidents reported daily.

The app, designed to protect citizens from cyber fraud, gained public trust, making compulsory installation unnecessary.

The Ministry of Communications assured that the app does not monitor users and operates only with user registration. The announcement followed Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia’s refutation of snooping concerns in Parliament.
