Defence Minister Launches Solar Hydrogen Microgrid, Inaugurates NTPC’s 3.7 MW Solar Project in Ladakh

NTPC Limited Strengthens Performance with Solid FY26 Operations

On November 28, 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated NTPC’s innovative 3.7 MW solar-hydrogen project in Chushul, Ladakh, completed in just eight months amidst challenging high-altitude conditions.

This microgrid aims to replace diesel generators at remote Army locations, thereby reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy reliability and security by facilitating local green energy production.

Operating at 4,500 meters and capable of delivering 200 kW continuously, this project represents a critical advancement in decarbonizing the defence sector.

NTPC, which contributes to one-fourth of India’s power needs, aims for a renewable capacity of 60 GW by 2032, while also exploring innovations in e-mobility, battery storage, and hydrogen solutions.
