Chennai, May 02 A significant meeting took place in Chennai. Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary of the Ministry of Coal, met with N. Muruganandam, Chief Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Government to discuss ways to improve energy security in Tamil Nadu.
Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD of NLC India Limited, and Sanjeev Kumar Kassi, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Coal. They were joined by Mukesh Choudhary, Director of Marketing at Coal India Limited, and Dr. Alby John Varghese, Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Limited also part of the meeting.
The discussions centered on anticipated power demands in the state, along with the availability of lignite and coal. They also looked at steps needed to handle peak loads during the hot summer and monsoon months.
Key issues were tabled, including NLCIL’s land acquisition challenges, ways to promote Overburden to M-Sand from Neyveli mines, and the need to address land acquisition for lignite mines. The operational start of Neyveli airport and potential joint ventures between TNGECL and NIRL were also on the agenda. The State Government committed to providing necessary support in these areas.
The meeting showcased the proactive steps taken by the state. This approach is expected to ease supply-side challenges and ensure that Tamil Nadu has reliable, affordable, and sustainable power, while also resolving the issues faced by NLCIL.
