New Delhi, Oct 02: NLC India’s medical branch organised a medical camp for Safai Mitras (Sanitation workers) on 28.09.24 at the NLC General Hospital embodying the spirit of the “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign launched as part of the Swachhata Mission envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.
The medical camp was inaugurated on 28.09.2024 in the presence of D.V.S.N. Murthy, Executive Director / Legal, CSR & Medical, NLCIL; R. Murugan, Chief General Manager/HR, NLCIL & Nodal Officer for Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign and Dr. Sukumar, General Superintendent, NLCIL Medical Branch.

During the medical camp, the sanitation workers were provided free consultation by doctors. The Haemoglobin count, Blood Pressure levels, Blood Glucose levels and body weights were checked and medicines provided to those in need at free of cost. In addition, counselling in Preventive Health Care and Health Awareness were also provided to the beneficiaries. A total of about 100 sanitation workers benefitted from the medical camp.
Sanitation workers are the crucial link to public health and cleanliness in public places. They play an important role in cleaning a place, removing garbage and aggregating the garbage at the designated areas. Recognising their impactful role in society and keeping in mind the various kinds of challenges to their health because of their exposure to hazardous working conditions, NLCIL deemed it appropriate to conduct a medical camp for the benefit of Sanitation workers and make it an integral part of theSwachhata Hi Seva campaign.The medical camp, a tribute to the selfless services of the Safai Karamcharis (Sanitation Workers), was a grand success.
