PERMANENT DIVERSION OF PARAVANAR – CROP COMPENSATION RECEIVED BY THE FARMERS

New Delhi, Aug 04: In Mine-II of NLC India Limited, the work of permanent diversion of Paravanaris under progress from 26.07.2023 onwards in the left over stretch of 1.5 kilometres, out of a total of 12 kilometres length of the river. Meanwhile, the affected farmers approached the Hon’ble High Court of Madras and filed a writ petition seeking directions to restrain NLCIL from carrying out the canal formation work.

On Hearing the writ petition on 02.08.2023, the Hon’ble High Courtissued interim orders in favour of the affected farmers, directing the government of Tamil Nadu and NLCIL to pay crop compensation on or before 06.08.2023 at the rate of Rs. 40,000/- per acre towards the extent of affected standing crops.

In compliance to the court direction, NLCIL and District Administration of Cuddalore arranged disbursement of cheques for crop compensation in the names of the respective individuals on 04.08.2023 at the office of the D.R.O, Land Acquisition, Neyveli.

Out of the total 141 cheques, 110 cheques have been issued to the affected farmers today, i.e., 04.08.2023 and the total amount disbursed is Rs.8,96,973/-. The balance 31 cheques involving a total amount of Rs.1,56,729/- are ready for disbursement and the concerned affected farmers may approach the office of the DRO/Land Acquisition,Neyveli, to receive the compensation.
