Water has innumerable health functions and plays the most important role in maintain the homoeostasis of the human body. Homoeopathy is a medical science that aims at maintaining the body homoeostasis as it corrects the imbalance by acting as a catalyst. This results in a state of perfect health.

A large part of homoeopathic medicine constitutes alcohol and water. The water component serves as a carrier for the drug. Many times, homoeopathic doctors ask patients to take the medicines by dissolving in water, especially in case of an infant or a seriously ill patient unable to gulp down the solid medicine. Diabetes mellitus patients are also sometimes given medicine mixed in water to nullify any sweet content of the homoeopathic pills.

Homoeopathy in water-borne diseases Water-borne diseases including cholera, typhoid and dysentery cause 3.4 million deaths each year.

Typhoid: Highly infectious disease that spreads during the monsoon, this is caused by contaminated food and water with bacteria. The most common symptom of this disease is prolonged fever, severe pain in abdomen and headache with diarrhoea/ constipation. Common homeopathic remedies are Baptisia, Acid mur, Arnica, Ars Alb and Gelsemium.

Cholera: Poor hygiene conditions and contaminated food and water also lead to cholera. Diarrhoea and vomiting are the common symptoms. Common homeopathic remedies are Veratrum alb, Camphor, cuprum met and Ars alb.

Dysentery: Dysentery is an infection of the intestine that causes severe diarrhoea with mucus and blood. Tenesmus (constant urge to pass stool) is a characteristic symptom of this infection. An infected person may experience mild to severe abdominal pain. The medicines are Mercurialis Corrosivus, Mercurius Solublis, Aloes, Arsenic album, Aloes, Magnesia Carbonica. Baryta Carbonica is used to treat dysentery in children. According to Nobel laureate Luc Montagnier, water is able to duplicate the qualities of any material with which it once interfaced. Numerous other
scientists and researchers also have found water to possess the innate capacity to retain a memory of the molecular properties of any substance it once contained which affirms the scientific base related to Homeopathy.
