Trump Extends Iran Ceasefire with No Deadline Amid Ongoing Talks

Washington, April 23: The administration of Donald Trump has extended its ceasefire with Iran while sustaining a comprehensive naval blockade, signalling a calibrated strategy that combines military restraint with intensified economic pressure.

According to Karoline Leavitt, the White House is pursuing a dual-track approach—pausing kinetic operations while continuing financial and maritime restrictions under what has been termed “Operation Economic Fury.”

Officials indicated that the blockade is significantly constraining Iran’s economy, particularly its ability to export oil and maintain financial flows. Despite the ceasefire, Washington has made clear that economic measures will remain firmly in place, underscoring its leverage in ongoing negotiations.

The administration has refrained from setting a fixed timeline for diplomatic talks, stating that the pace and direction of negotiations will be determined by the President based on strategic considerations.

Leavitt also highlighted internal divisions within Iran’s leadership as a complicating factor, noting inconsistencies between Tehran’s public statements and private переговоры with US officials. This divergence has added uncertainty to the negotiation process, with questions remaining over decision-making authority within the Iranian system.

From a strategic standpoint, the US maintains that it holds a strong negotiating position, leveraging both economic pressure and controlled military de-escalation to shape outcomes.

Separately, the administration confirmed it is monitoring developments in the aviation sector, including reports of potential support measures for Spirit Airlines, though no formal decisions have been announced.

The evolving US approach reflects a broader effort to balance geopolitical risk management with economic statecraft, as tensions in the region continue to influence global energy and financial markets.
