New Delhi, July 26: President Droupadi Murmu returned to New Delhi on Sunday after successfully completing her three-nation State visits to Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania, reinforcing India’s diplomatic outreach and strategic engagement with Europe. According to the President’s Secretariat, the visits focused on expanding bilateral cooperation, strengthening political dialogue and exploring new opportunities in trade, education, science and cultural exchanges. The official X handle of the President of India announced her return after the conclusion of the high-level diplomatic engagements across the three European nations.
During the final leg of the tour, President Murmu visited Romania, where she held extensive discussions with Romanian President Nicusor Dan at the Cotroceni Palace in Bucharest. She was accorded a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour before both leaders reviewed the entire spectrum of India-Romania relations and exchanged views on regional, global and multilateral issues. The visit resulted in the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering science and technology, sports cooperation, and the establishment of a Chair of Indian Studies at the University of Bucharest, further expanding academic and institutional collaboration. The visit also marked the first State Visit by an Indian President to Romania in nearly three decades.
Earlier, President Murmu visited North Macedonia, where she held meetings with President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski to discuss ways to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors. She was welcomed in Skopje by Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski, reflecting the importance both countries attach to enhancing bilateral relations. The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest while strengthening political, economic and cultural engagement between India and North Macedonia.
President Murmu began her diplomatic tour with a historic visit to Moldova, becoming the first Indian President ever to visit the country. During her stay in Chisinau, she met Speaker Igor Grosu and members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group and reaffirmed India’s commitment to building a future-oriented and mutually beneficial partnership with Moldova. Accompanied by Minister of State Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya and Members of Parliament Dr. Dinesh Sharma and Vijay Baghel, the President’s three-nation visit underscored India’s growing engagement with Europe and its commitment to strengthening diplomatic, economic and people-to-people ties.
