New Delhi, 29: The Memorandum of Understanding for the Indore-Manmad New Rail line project was inked under the Chairmanship of Union Minister for Shipping and Ports, Nitin Gadkari, while the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis was also present at this event. It was signed at Transport Bhavan, today.

The Indian Port Rail Corporation Limited (IPRCL), under the Shipping Ministry, along with the Ministry of Railways and the main promoter Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in collaboration with the Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra Governments will have a 362 km long new railway line, from Indore to Manmad to JNPT, thereby saving a travel distance of 171km from Indore to Mumbai.

Under the Sagarmala project, JNPT will work for the new line of Indore-Manmad, 362 km long, with a 55% stake. For this, the agreement was signed today in the presence of Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of State for Defense Dr. Subhash Bhamre, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

All obstacles in this railway route have been removed. Indore-Manmad rail lines would cost around Rs 8574.79 crores. This will help reduce the distance of industrial town of Indore from JNPT Mumbai to 171 km. This rail line will provide a new means of transport to the backward areas of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, which will accelerate the development of these areas.

In the first phase, four bridges have been tendered and the inauguration would be held soon, informed Shri Gadkari. It will take approximately six years for this railway route. However, he has instructed to complete this work in four years, informed the union minister. He expressed confidence that the railway will be completed in next four years.
