Mumbai, April 18: HDFC Bank reported an 8.04% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to ₹20,350.76 crore for the January–March quarter (Q4 FY26), driven by steady core income growth and continued expansion in its loan book.
Interest income for the quarter stood at ₹87,182.50 crore, broadly stable sequentially and marginally higher compared to the year-ago period. On a standalone basis, net interest income (NII) rose 3.2% year-on-year to ₹33,082 crore.
Total income came in at ₹1.16 lakh crore, reflecting a sequential moderation from ₹1.26 lakh crore in the previous quarter, though remaining higher than ₹1.20 lakh crore reported a year earlier.
Operating profit improved to ₹31,111.68 crore, compared to ₹29,378.75 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, supported by steady revenue growth. However, operating expenses remained elevated at ₹40,587.82 crore, rising from ₹39,300.40 crore a year ago, indicating continued cost pressures.
On the business front, the bank’s gross advances grew to ₹29.6 lakh crore as of March 2026, up from ₹28.45 lakh crore in the December quarter. Retail lending remained the primary growth driver, with the portfolio reaching ₹16.15 lakh crore, led by mortgages (₹8.89 lakh crore) and personal loans (₹2.18 lakh crore). Auto loans stood at ₹1.58 lakh crore, while gold loans increased to ₹23,700 crore.
The small and mid-market segment also recorded steady traction, with advances rising to ₹6.32 lakh crore, while corporate and wholesale loans expanded to ₹8.11 lakh crore. Overall advances under management stood at ₹30.57 lakh crore, reflecting sustained balance sheet growth.
Separately, the bank has been in focus following the resignation of former part-time Chairman and Independent Director Atanu Chakraborty. In his resignation letter, Chakraborty cited a divergence in values and approach over the past two years, while clarifying that his exit was not linked to any specific wrongdoing or malpractice within the bank.
Shares of HDFC Bank closed largely flat at ₹800 on the National Stock Exchange of India, up 0.57% on Friday.
