Flagging-Off of train no. 12954 from Hazrat Nizamuddin by Freedom fighters/their families from Hazrat Nizammudin Railway Station


New Delhi, July 20: To commemorate the 75th year of India’s Independence ” Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav ” is being celebrated across the country. Ministry of Railways is organizing many programmes to commemorate the occasion during the week from 18th of July 2022 to 23rd of July 2022.

The train no. 12953/12954 AUGUST KRANTI Rajdhani Express runs between Mumbai Central and Hazrat Nizamudin Station. On 8th of August 1942, the foundation of ” Quit India Movement ” was laid by Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhiji in his speech given at Gwalia Tank ground called for the British to leave India and do or die, which inspired the entire country for the movement. After this Gandhiji was imprisoned in the Aga Khan Palace in Pune and almost all the senior leaders were arrested.

Since country achieved Independence, 8th August is known as ” August Kranti Diwas ” and the Gwalia Tank ground in Mumbai from where it was started is now known as August Kranti Maidan. To commemorate this important and historic day and place, a Rajdhani Express train was introduced between Mumbai and Delhi was namely August Kranti Rajdhani Express.

Today, Freedom fighters/their families i.e. Dr. B. N. Pandey (Member of INA), Smt. Kamla Devi W/o Late Krishan Lal (Freedom Fighter) flagged off the August Kranti Rajdhani Express (Train No. 12954) from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station as part of the celebrations.  Dimpy Garg, Divisional Railway Manager, Delhi and Senior Officers of Delhi Division were present on this occasion.
