CISF nabbed TFS technician staff & 2 Passengers with yellow gold at Chennai Airport

Yellow metal (gold) in paste form weighing about 2.744 kgs (worth approx Rs. 1.5 crores)

New Delhi, Oct 18 On 18.10.2023 at about 0222 hrs, on the basis of behaviour detection, CISF surveillance and intelligence taff of Chennai Airport noticed suspicious activities of a TFS technician staff later identified as Manivannan. CISF personnel closely observed that Manivannan entered inside the washroom alongwith two passengers.

At about 0224 hrs both passengers came out from washroom and went towards boarding gate area and the Technician Staff came out from washroom at about 0231 hrs and went towards TFS staff rest room.

On strong suspicion, CISF personnel approached him and intercepted the technician staff and he was brought to the Security Hold Area for checking. On physical checking 08 oval shaped yellow metal (gold) weighing 2.744 Kg in paste form were detected, concealed in his pockets and shoes.

On questioning, the staff accepted that he received the gold in paste form from both the passengers who handed over the gold to him in the washroom. On checking the CCTV footage the passenger later identified as Mr Mohammadu Rafas and Mr Mohamed Inzamam (both Srilankan) who arrived from Dubai by Indigo Flight No. 6E 1472 (ATA
0125 hrs) was identified and intercepted by CISF personnel. The matter was informed to Custom officials and CISF officers.

Later, the technical staff, both the passengers alongwith recovered 2.744 Kg yellow metal (gold) in paste form worth approximately INR 1.5 crores, were handed over to Custom officials for further action in the matter.
