Raj Bhargava Foundation Scholarships, Hindu College, University of Delhi
New Delhi, July 27: Raj Bhargava (IAS retd), former Chief Secretary, Home Affairs, Government of India, an illustrious alumnus of Hindu College, University of Delhi, recently returned to the institution with a corpus fund of one crore rupees for a scholarship foundation for social sciences at the undergraduate level. The scholarships are renewable, motivating students to perform in an environment of opportunities, to help them shape a holistic personality.
Based on academic merit the purpose, as explained by the very generous donor himself, is to search for the right talent, to be able to keep alive the spirit of maintaining academic excellence in the institution. In 2022 the College has instituted 2 scholarships for students in their first year. The allocation is through a rigorous selection process comprising a college-wide written MeritAssessment Test (MAT), followed by an Interactive Session of shortlisted candidates with an expert committee.
The inaugural year turned out to be very special because Mr. Raj Bhargava himself interacted with shortlisted students before disbursing the scholarship award, and he very generously endowed winning prizes to five deserving students who had done exceedingly well in the selection process. The college gave away the prize money of Rs. 75000/- and a Tablet device to each of the two winners—Ayush SinghRajpoot (History) and Gavish Lohat (Political Science). Divya (History) and Vismay Vairagi (Economics), the two runners-up, were given a laptop each. In addition, a fifth student was also awarded a Tablet device in recognition of outstanding performance.
Prof. Anju Srivastava, Principal, feels proud that a new chapter has dawned in the college with the involvement of alumni in the floating of very liberal and generous scholarships, which she believes will bring a wave of happiness and brighten the future of students. The convenor, Dr. Archana Vermathanks Raj Bhargava for the zeal in keeping the welfare of the College and students in his heart. For the proud recipient Ayush Singh Rajpoot, it is a“moment of pride”. Gavish Lohat is instilled with a “positive impact which comes with prestige”. Divya, the runner – up looks at the whole process as a“great experience”, while Vismay Vairagi believes that the selection process was an “incredible journey”. Kaushiki Gaur joins her peers in stating that“every stage was intriguing”.
