Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has expressed confidence that the upcoming NEET-UG 2026 re-examination will be conducted smoothly and without any irregularities. Speaking after reviewing preparations at the National Testing Agency (NTA) headquarters, the minister said extensive precautions have been taken to safeguard the examination process at every stage.

The re-examination is scheduled to be held on June 21, following allegations of discrepancies and irregularities in the examination conducted earlier on May 3.

Pradhan stated that the government has strengthened confidentiality measures from the stage of question paper preparation to the secure transportation of examination papers to designated centres. According to him, all departments involved in the process have been directed to follow stricter protocols than ever before.

The minister revealed that a high-level review meeting involving secretaries of concerned departments was held under the leadership of Cabinet Secretary T. V. Somanathan. In addition, he has personally written to Chief Ministers across the country seeking their cooperation in ensuring smooth conduct of the examination.

According to Pradhan, several state governments have already conducted meetings involving District Collectors, Superintendents of Police, Director Generals of Police, and Chief Secretaries to strengthen local-level monitoring and security arrangements. The Director General of the NTA has also participated virtually in these meetings.

The Union Education Minister further disclosed that Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan will soon hold another high-level review meeting regarding examination preparations. He said coordination has been established among various ministries, including the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Home Ministry, and other departments to address security and cyber-related challenges.

To improve institutional capacity, Pradhan stated that new officials have been inducted into the National Testing Agency, strengthening its administrative and operational framework.

Expressing confidence in the preparations, the minister said he believes the NTA will successfully conduct the examination across 551 cities. He assured students that all efforts are being made to ensure a transparent examination process and timely declaration of results so that academic schedules remain unaffected.

Addressing NEET aspirants directly, Pradhan said the government is committed to restoring confidence in the examination system and ensuring that the mistakes of the past are not repeated.

On the ongoing investigation into the alleged NEET-UG paper leak case, the minister said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is actively examining the matter and identifying all individuals involved. He called for a speedy trial in a fast-track court and demanded exemplary punishment for those found guilty.

Pradhan also indicated that legal action could extend beyond criminal proceedings. He said the NTA has been asked to explore whether civil liability proceedings can be initiated against individuals and organisations that violated contractual obligations and breached the trust placed in them.

The minister added that he has held discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and plans to meet Health Minister JP Nadda regarding examination preparedness. He also noted that the Finance Ministry is closely monitoring developments.
