Delcy Rodríguez begins five-day India visit to deepen ties

New Delhi, June 3: Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a five-day official visit aimed at deepening India–Venezuela relations across strategic sectors, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal welcomed Rodríguez’s arrival and said the visit will build on recent momentum in the bilateral partnership. “A warm welcome to Acting President Delcy Rodríguez of Venezuela on her arrival in New Delhi. During her visit, Acting President Delcy Rodriguez will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The visit will further deepen India–Venezuela ties and build on the momentum in the bilateral partnership,” he posted on X.

Rodríguez is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi for discussions covering the full spectrum of ties and exploring fresh avenues of cooperation in energy security, trade and investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation and renewable energy, the MEA noted.

She is accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes Venezuela’s Ministers of Foreign Affairs; Economy and Finance; Science and Technology; Communication and Information; and Transportation. During the visit, the delegation will tour facilities linked to India’s energy, pharmaceuticals and auto sectors to gain insights into technological and industrial capabilities and to identify opportunities for collaboration.

This is Rodríguez’s sixth visit to India,” the MEA said, recalling her earlier trips as Venezuela’s Foreign Minister in 2015 and as Vice President in 2019, 2023, 2024 and 2025. The frequency of high-level exchanges, the ministry added, reflects the continuity and depth of engagement between the two countries.

Underscoring the strategic dimension of the partnership, the MEA said India has been an important partner of Venezuela in energy and investment. “Indian PSUs have made significant investment in Venezuela in the energy sector and they are keen to explore opportunities for further enhancing their presence,” the statement added.

India and Venezuela “enjoy warm and friendly relations, underpinned by cooperation in the energy sector, trade, and shared commitment to the Global South,” the MEA said. The current visit is expected to strengthen bilateral ties and expand collaboration across diverse sectors, with a particular emphasis on securing energy supplies, catalysing trade and investment flows, and advancing cooperation in pharmaceuticals, healthcare delivery, transportation infrastructure and clean energy.

Through sectoral visits and leadership-level talks, both sides are expected to assess practical next steps to translate intent into actionable partnerships, with Indian capabilities in manufacturing, healthcare and renewables providing potential avenues for joint initiatives. Further details of the bilateral meeting outcomes are awaited.
