Commercial LPG prices have been increased once again, adding to cost pressures for restaurants, hotels, caterers and small businesses across the country.
Under the latest revision effective Monday, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has been increased by Rs 42, taking the retail selling price to Rs 3,113.50 per cylinder. In Kolkata, prices have risen by Rs 53.50, pushing the rate to Rs 3,255.50.
Oil marketing companies have also revised the price of 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders upward by Rs 11, with a 5-kg cylinder in Delhi now costing Rs 821.50. However, domestic LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged, offering relief to household consumers.
The latest increase extends the sharp upward trend in commercial LPG prices seen since the start of the year. In January, a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi was priced at Rs 1,691.50. Since then, prices have surged by more than Rs 1,400 within five months.
The price escalation has unfolded in successive stages. Commercial LPG prices were increased by Rs 49 in February and Rs 115 in March. The steepest hike came in April, when rates jumped by Rs 993 per cylinder. After remaining elevated in May, prices have again moved higher in June.
The impact is visible across major cities. A 19-kg commercial cylinder now costs Rs 3,024.50 in Mumbai, Rs 3,232 in Chennai, Rs 3,294 in Hyderabad and Rs 3,322 in Patna.
The LPG hike follows recent increases in other fuel categories. CNG prices in Delhi and adjoining regions have risen by Rs 2 per kg to Rs 83.09 per kg. Since May 15, CNG rates have increased cumulatively by Rs 6 per kg.
Petrol and diesel prices have also moved higher. Petrol prices have risen by Rs 7.35 per litre, while diesel prices have increased by Rs 7.53 per litre in recent weeks.
For businesses dependent on transportation and commercial cooking fuel, the combined rise in energy costs is expected to further increase operating expenses.
