New Delh, May 21: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), a subsidiary of ONGC, has received authorisation from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) to develop a dedicated Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) pipeline connecting Devangonthi to Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru.

The approval covers laying, building, operating and expanding a petroleum products pipeline linking MRPL’s Devangonthi Marketing Terminal to both the existing Common User Fuel Farm Station and the upcoming Satellite Fuel Farm Station inside Kempegowda International Airport.

According to the company, the authorised pipeline will have a capacity of 2.5 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) and is scheduled to be completed within 36 months.

MRPL said the project marks a significant milestone in strengthening its downstream marketing infrastructure and expanding its aviation fuel supply network in Karnataka.

The dedicated pipeline is expected to establish a direct and efficient transportation link between MRPL’s Devangonthi infrastructure and Kempegowda International Airport, one of India’s fastest-growing aviation hubs.

The development assumes strategic significance amid Bengaluru airport’s sustained growth in passenger and cargo traffic, reinforcing the city’s role as a key aviation, technology and logistics centre.

MRPL noted that its Devangonthi Marketing Terminal has already evolved into an important petroleum distribution hub in the Bengaluru region.

Located at Dodda Dasarahally, the terminal was commissioned for the dispatch of Motor Spirit (petrol), High-Speed Diesel and Aviation Turbine Fuel, receiving finished petroleum products through the existing PMHBL pipeline from MRPL’s Mangaluru refinery.

The company said the facility was established to support rising petroleum demand linked to expanding industrial and retail activity in the region.

B.H.V. Prasad, Executive Director – Projects at MRPL, said the proposed ATF pipeline would play a key role in meeting Bengaluru airport’s increasing fuel demand while enhancing the company’s market presence.

“The proposed ATF pipeline will be a game-changer for MRPL, as it will support growing ATF requirement of Bengaluru airport while providing MRPL with a strategic launchpad to expand its hydrocarbon footprint in one of the nation’s most significant growth hubs,” Prasad said.
