Oslo, May 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 3rd India-Nordic Summit in Oslo on Tuesday, with discussions set to focus on expanding India’s strategic engagement with Nordic nations across technology, renewable energy, defence, sustainability and trade.

The summit builds on earlier India-Nordic engagements held in Stockholm in 2018 and Copenhagen in 2022 and is expected to add greater strategic depth to India’s partnership with the Nordic region.
The MEA said discussions will focus on technology and innovation, green transition, renewable energy, sustainability, blue economy, defence cooperation, space and Arctic engagement.
Ahead of the summit, Modi attended the India-Norway Business and Research Summit in Oslo, underscoring growing economic cooperation following the implementation of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA).
The business summit saw participation from more than 50 companies and over 250 representatives from Indian and Norwegian business and research communities, with several commercial agreements signed during the event.
Modi arrived in Norway on Monday as part of the fourth leg of his five-nation diplomatic tour and was personally received at the airport by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in a special diplomatic gesture.
During the visit, the Prime Minister also met King Harald V at the Royal Palace in Oslo, where the two leaders reviewed expanding cooperation between Indian and Norwegian companies, particularly in emerging technologies.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Modi highlighted the strengthening India-Norway relationship anchored in democratic values, rule of law and people-centric governance.
King Harald later hosted a luncheon in Modi’s honour, with the Prime Minister expressing appreciation for the hospitality extended during the visit.
Earlier on Monday, Modi was conferred with Norway’s highest civilian honour for foreign heads of government, the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit.
Accepting the award, Modi dedicated the honour to the people of India and described it as a reflection of the enduring friendship and shared commitment to global progress between India and Norway.
According to the PMO, the award recognises outstanding service in the interest of Norway and humanity and marks another milestone in the evolving bilateral relationship.
The India-Nordic Summit is expected to further strengthen cooperation between India and Nordic countries as both sides seek closer collaboration in innovation, clean energy and resilient economic partnerships.
