Oslo, May 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met Norway’s King Harald V at the Royal Palace in Oslo, with discussions highlighting expanding India-Norway ties and growing collaboration between businesses of both countries, particularly in emerging technologies.

During the audience, PM Modi conveyed greetings and best wishes from the people of India and underscored the deepening friendship between the two nations.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Modi praised Norway’s natural beauty and said India-Norway relations continue to strengthen on the foundation of shared democratic values, rule of law and people-centric governance.

The meeting was followed by a luncheon hosted by King Harald in honour of the Indian Prime Minister, who thanked the Norwegian monarch for the hospitality extended during the visit.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi was conferred with Norway’s highest honour for foreign heads of government, the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit.

Accepting the recognition, Modi dedicated the honour to the people of India and described it as a tribute to the enduring friendship between India and Norway and their shared commitment to global progress.

The PMO said the award recognises outstanding service in the interest of Norway and humanity and symbolises the strong goodwill underpinning bilateral ties.

The diplomatic engagement also carried an economic and strategic dimension. Addressing the media alongside Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, Modi announced that India and Norway have elevated bilateral relations to a Green Strategic Partnership.

The new framework aims to combine India’s scale, talent and growth momentum with Norway’s technological capabilities and investment strength to enable businesses from both countries to develop global solutions.

The partnership is expected to strengthen cooperation in clean technology, sustainability and innovation-led sectors while broadening economic engagement between the two countries.
