India Energy Week 2026 inaugurated in Goa, bringing together 75,000+ energy professionals, 700+ exhibitors, and delegates from over 120 countries.
India strengthens its energy ecosystem through upstream reforms, expanded exploration, price stability measures, and continued protection for consumers.
Strong focus on clean and future energy, including 20% ethanol blending, progress in bioenergy and CBG, 100 GW nuclear target by 2047, and new opportunities in shipbuilding.
Goa, June 27 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated India Energy Week (IEW) 2026 in Goa, positioning India as a leading global platform for energy dialogue, cooperation, and action amid a rapidly evolving global energy landscape.
Addressing the inaugural session, the Prime Minister highlighted India’s status as the world’s fastest-growing major economy, noting that rising domestic energy demand is creating significant opportunities for global suppliers and investors. He said India is already among the top five petroleum product exporters, supplying energy products to more than 150 countries.
Emphasising international collaboration, PM Modi referred to the proposed EU–India Free Trade Agreement, describing it as the “Mother of All Deals” that will strengthen trade ties, complement existing agreements, and reinforce global supply chains.
The Prime Minister invited investments across the entire energy value chain, including exploration and refining, stating that India plans to invest USD 100 billion in oil and gas by the end of the decade. He noted that India, currently the world’s second-largest refiner with 260 MMTPA capacity, aims to become the global leader by expanding capacity beyond 300 MMTPA.
Highlighting India’s growing role in cleaner fuels, PM Modi said the country is targeting 15 per cent of its total energy demand from LNG, while encouraging investment in LNG infrastructure, terminals, and vessel manufacturing. He reiterated India’s commitment to energy independence, driven by domestic capacity creation and globally competitive export solutions.
Calling on global partners to participate in India’s energy journey, the Prime Minister urged investors to “Make in India, Innovate in India, Scale with India, and Invest in India,” pointing to nearly USD 500 billion in investment opportunities in the energy sector.

Welcoming delegates at the inaugural ceremony, the Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri highlighted IEW’s rapid rise as one of the world’s most influential energy platforms.
The fourth edition of the event is hosting over 75,000 energy professionals, more than 700 exhibiting companies, delegates from over 120 countries, and 550 global speakers across 110 strategic and technical sessions.
Addressing global energy challenges, the Minister highlighted that nearly 80 per cent of incremental global energy demand is coming from emerging and developing economies, particularly Developing Asia, even as millions worldwide still lack access to electricity and clean cooking fuels.
He emphasised that the global energy transition must balance sustainability with energy security and affordability.
While renewable energy capacity continues to expand rapidly, the Minister underlined the continued importance of conventional energy sources, stating that the energy transition has historically been about “addition, not replacement.” He stressed that oil and gas will remain essential to meet rising global demand while ensuring system resilience.
Highlighting India’s growing role, the Minister said that as the world’s third-largest energy consumer, India’s energy demand will continue to rise across all sources.
He outlined key reforms undertaken by the government to strengthen the upstream oil and gas sector, expand exploration, and attract global investment, even as India shields its citizens from fuel price volatility through targeted subsidies.
Reaffirming India’s clean-energy commitment, the Minister pointed to nearly 20 per cent ethanol blending achieved in 2025, rapid progress in bioenergy and compressed biogas, and the country’s ambitious plan to scale nuclear capacity to 100 GW by 2047. He also highlighted new opportunities in shipbuilding, maritime energy logistics, and Global Capability Centres.
Calling for deeper international cooperation, the Minister said India stands ready to work with global partners to build a secure, resilient, and inclusive energy future. He expressed confidence that India Energy Week 2026 would serve as a catalyst for translating dialogue into action and partnerships that benefit economies worldwide.
