New Delhi, July 01: India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections maintained a healthy growth trajectory in June, with gross GST revenue rising 13.9% year-on-year to Rs 1,94,812 crore, according to official data released on Wednesday. The strong performance was primarily supported by a significant increase in GST collections from imports, indicating sustained trade activity and robust tax compliance.

The latest figures show that gross GST collections stood at Rs 1,94,812 crore in June, compared with Rs 1,71,105 crore during the same month last year.

A major contributor to the growth was GST revenue from imports, which surged 34.6% to Rs 60,038 crore. Meanwhile, gross domestic GST revenue increased 6.5% year-on-year to Rs 1,34,774 crore, reflecting steady domestic consumption and business activity.

After adjusting for refunds, net GST collections rose 11.2% to Rs 1,62,377 crore, up from Rs 1,45,984 crore in June 2025.

Refunds also witnessed a substantial increase during the month. Total GST refunds climbed nearly 30% to Rs 32,436 crore, compared with Rs 25,121 crore in the corresponding month last year. Domestic refunds recorded a sharp 42.9% increase to Rs 17,767 crore, while export refunds processed through ICEGATE rose 15.6% to Rs 14,669 crore, providing liquidity support to exporters.

The data further revealed that net domestic GST revenue increased 2.6% to Rs 1,17,007 crore, whereas net customs GST revenue registered an impressive 42.2% growth to Rs 45,370 crore, highlighting the strong contribution of import-related tax collections.

For the first quarter of FY27 (April-June), gross GST collections reached Rs 6,31,699 crore, marking an 8.4% increase over Rs 5,82,542 crore collected during the same period of the previous financial year.

Similarly, net GST revenue for the April-June period rose 7.1% year-on-year to Rs 5,40,218 crore, while total GST refunds increased 16.8% to Rs 91,482 crore, indicating continued efforts to expedite refund processing without affecting revenue growth.

The June performance builds on the momentum seen in May, when gross GST collections had increased to Rs 1,94,184 crore, reflecting the government’s continued success in strengthening the indirect tax ecosystem through improved compliance, digitisation, and expanding economic activity.

Conclusion

The latest GST collection figures underscore the resilience of India’s economy and the effectiveness of the country’s indirect tax framework. Strong import-related revenues, sustained domestic tax collections, and higher refund disbursements indicate a balanced approach that supports both revenue mobilisation and business liquidity. The steady rise in quarterly GST collections also provides a positive signal for government finances and economic growth during FY27.
