New Delhi, June 03: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the widening of key stretches of National Highways 63 and 563 in Telangana at a total investment of ₹7,597.16 crore.
The project covers the Armoor-Jagtial-Mancherial section of NH-63 under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) and the Jagtial-Karimnagar section of NH-563 under the Build-Operate-Transfer (Toll) model. Together, the three work packages span a total length of 190.76 kilometres.
The highway upgrade aims to address severe traffic congestion across major urban and semi-urban centres in Telangana. The NH-63 corridor passes through Nizamabad, Jagtial and Mancherial districts, where growing traffic volumes and dense development have led to bottlenecks in locations such as Anksapoor, Korutla, Jagtial, Dharmapuri, Lakshettipet and Mancherial.
Similarly, the NH-563 stretch connecting Jagtial and Karimnagar experiences heavy congestion through built-up areas including Jagtial, Potharam, Gangadhara and Karimnagar.
Under the approved plan, both corridors will be upgraded to four-lane highways with bypasses around densely populated areas and open tolling systems. The roads are being designed for speeds of up to 100 km per hour, improving traffic flow, safety and travel efficiency.
The project is expected to significantly enhance connectivity across the districts of Nizamabad, Jagtial, Mancherial and Karimnagar while supporting regional mobility and economic development.
Upon completion, travel time between Armoor and Mancherial is projected to reduce by approximately 90 minutes, while the Jagtial-Karimnagar journey is expected to become about 45 minutes shorter.
The government said the improved highway infrastructure will also lower fuel consumption, reduce vehicle operating costs and cut carbon emissions by enabling smoother and faster transportation.
Beyond transportation benefits, the project is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities. It is estimated to create around 34.43 lakh man-days of direct employment and an additional 42.70 lakh man-days of indirect employment during the construction phase.
Aligned with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, the upgraded corridors will strengthen connectivity to five economic nodes, seven social infrastructure nodes and ten logistics nodes, enhancing supply chain efficiency and regional integration.
The government expects the project to contribute positively to India’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI) while supporting industrial growth, trade expansion and long-term socio-economic development across Telangana.
