New Delhi, July 27: The government has announced the Corporate Mitra Scheme to strengthen India’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by providing accessible, affordable and quality compliance and business support services. The initiative, spearheaded by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, is designed to empower enterprises, particularly in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, while creating a skilled pool of accredited para-professionals. According to the government, the scheme aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 by improving the ease of doing business for MSMEs and enhancing employment opportunities for young graduates across the country.
As part of the programme, IICA Shillong organised an awareness webinar for youth, students, professionals, MSMEs and enterprises in Arunachal Pradesh to promote the scheme and encourage participation. The government said the initiative will equip graduates with industry-relevant knowledge and practical skills, enabling them to become Corporate Mitras capable of supporting local businesses. These accredited professionals will assist enterprises in handling regulatory compliance, taxation, accounting, financial management and corporate governance, allowing entrepreneurs to focus on innovation, expansion and business growth while meeting statutory requirements efficiently.
The scheme places special emphasis on the North East Region (NER) to strengthen the local MSME ecosystem and create employment opportunities. IICA Shillong has been designated as the nodal agency for coordinating implementation across the Northeast in collaboration with state governments and other stakeholders. To encourage wider participation, the government has announced a 50% fee concession for candidates from the North East. The initial nationwide rollout aims to train 2,000 Corporate Mitras, including 200 participants exclusively from the NER, creating a robust network of skilled professionals to support emerging businesses.
According to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the Corporate Mitra Scheme seeks to build a formalised, financially sustainable and globally competitive MSME sector by providing enterprises with access to trusted and qualified para-professionals. By simplifying compliance processes and improving access to professional business services, the initiative is expected to boost entrepreneurship, improve regulatory compliance and strengthen the long-term growth of India’s MSME sector. The programme also supports the government’s broader objective of creating a resilient and inclusive economy driven by innovation, employment generation and sustainable enterprise development.
