IIT Goa held its seventh graduation ceremony on Sunday. The event took place at the Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir in Ponda. It was a massive day. In total, 188 students walked away with their degrees.
The school gave degrees to 144 bachelor’s students. Another 22 students got master’s degrees. Finally, 22 scholars earned doctorates. Adil Zainulbhai, the head of the school’s board, led the ceremony. Professor Ajay Kumar Sood joined as the chief guest. He works as the lead science advisor to the Indian government. Dr. Anand Deshpande, the founder of Persistent Systems, also came as a special guest.
Top students win awards
The school handed out special awards to the top students. M. Thilin P snagged the President of India Gold Medal. Deval Nyaneshwar Gawas pocketed the Institute Gold Medal. Atharva Sachin Keny won the award for the best overall outgoing student. Dr. Rubal nabbed the prize for the best doctoral paper.
Speakers share advice for the future
Zainulbhai urged the graduates to start their own businesses. He wants them to solve India’s problems. He said that young people will drive the country’s growth if they create new tools instead of just looking for jobs.
Deshpande told the students to keep learning and stay flexible. He said that a long career needs hard work and teamwork. He shared five key values to help them succeed in life.
Sood praised the young scientists in India. He told the students to turn their school research into real-world products. He also mentioned that the government is helping new technology businesses. He suggested that students study areas like artificial intelligence and quantum computers.
New plans for the school
The school’s director, Professor Dhirendra S. Katti, congratulated the new graduates. He thanked the parents and the teachers for their support. He also announced new plans because the school will turn ten years old soon.
The school will let college students study two main subjects at once. They will also start new master’s courses in science. Katti said the school secured 15 research projects that brought in about 690 lakh rupees. They also signed 11 partnership agreements with other groups. Finally, he shared that over 92 percent of the graduates secured jobs through the school.
