Chennai, July 15: The Tamil Nadu government has unveiled an ambitious roadmap to establish 20,000 public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by 2031, reinforcing its commitment to clean mobility, sustainable transportation and green energy. The large-scale infrastructure expansion is expected to improve charging accessibility across the state while encouraging faster adoption of electric vehicles.
The roadmap was discussed during a series of high-level meetings in Chennai, where senior government officials and industry experts reviewed the existing charging infrastructure and identified measures to accelerate deployment. The discussions focused on creating a robust and future-ready charging network capable of supporting the state’s rapidly growing EV ecosystem.
A review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Sai Kumar assessed the current status of EV charging facilities and examined challenges related to infrastructure expansion. A subsequent technical meeting led by the Chairman and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation (TNPDCL) brought together representatives from ITDP India and the Mentor Tamil Nadu initiative.
