New Delhi, July 10: Argentina is committed to further strengthening its economic and strategic partnership with India, Ambassador Mariano Caucino said while addressing the 17th Agriculture Leadership Summit in New Delhi. He noted that India has become Argentina’s sixth-largest economic partner, following the United States, China, the European Union, Brazil and Chile. The bilateral economic relationship reached nearly US$6 billion in 2025, highlighting the rapid growth in trade between the two countries.

The ambassador said the India-Argentina relationship is expanding alongside India’s rising global influence. He praised India’s remarkable economic growth and described the country as one of the world’s leading economies. According to him, the increasing engagement reflects the strong confidence Argentina has in India’s long-term development and global leadership.

Highlighting the long-standing diplomatic relationship, Caucino recalled that Argentina established its Embassy in New Delhi in 1950, making it one of the first Latin American countries to appoint a resident ambassador after India’s Independence. He added that both democracies share common values, including respect for human dignity, and have worked closely on international platforms such as the G20.

The ambassador emphasized that the two economies have become increasingly complementary, creating new opportunities for trade and investment. He pointed out that Argentina became India’s largest supplier of edible oils in 2025, while recent milestones such as the opening of the Argentine Consulate in Mumbai, the establishment of an Agriculture Attaché Office, and the elevation of bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership have further strengthened cooperation.

Looking ahead, Argentina is keen to expand collaboration beyond agriculture into critical minerals, clean energy and other strategic sectors. Caucino said these partnerships can contribute significantly to India’s ambition of becoming a developed nation by 2047, while also supporting supply chain resilience and economic diversification.

Describing Argentina’s strengths, the envoy said that although the country has a population of less than 50 million, it possesses an exceptional capacity to produce agricultural commodities efficiently. He added that Argentina’s location in a relatively peaceful region enables it to contribute to global food and energy security, especially at a time of continuing geopolitical uncertainties. By combining India’s and Argentina’s agricultural expertise, both countries can promote sustainable innovation, reliable food supplies and long-term economic growth.

Conclusion

With trade expanding and cooperation widening across agriculture, energy and strategic sectors, the India-Argentina partnership is poised to become an increasingly important pillar of bilateral economic and diplomatic engagement.
