New Delhi, May 13: India will host the BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting on May 14–15, 2026, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar chairing the high-level diplomatic gathering, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Tuesday.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said foreign ministers and heads of delegations from BRICS member and partner countries will participate in the meeting and are also scheduled to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The two-day meeting will see discussions on key global and regional issues of mutual interest. On the second day, participants will attend a session themed “BRICS at 20: Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” followed by deliberations on reforms in global governance and the multilateral system.
Jaiswal said BRICS operates on consensus, including decisions related to expansion and membership, noting that recent enlargements were agreed upon in earlier summits.
India, as BRICS chair for 2026, is leading the grouping under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” reflecting a focus on inclusive and future-oriented global cooperation.
The meeting comes ahead of the BRICS Summit scheduled later this year in New Delhi, which will further shape the bloc’s strategic direction.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is also expected to visit India for the meeting and hold bilateral discussions with Jaishankar on trade, economic cooperation, and preparations for upcoming intergovernmental commission meetings.
BRICS, originally formed as BRIC in 2006 and expanded to include South Africa in 2010, has grown into a major platform representing emerging economies and global south cooperation.
