New Delhi, Sep 03 The 99th meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) convened to evaluate infrastructure projects relevant to the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS NMP), with a focus on enhancing multimodal connectivity and logistics efficiency.
The group reviewed four projects: one road/highway project from the Ministry of Road, Transport & Highways (MoRTH) and three railway projects from the Ministry of Railways (MoR).
The assessed projects included a proposed new 40.2 km Broad Gauge (BG) line from Baramulla to Uri in Jammu & Kashmir, aimed at providing reliable, all-weather connectivity, boosting tourism, and serving strategic military interests.
Another evaluated project is the doubling of the 73.50 km Qazigund–Badgam railway line in Jammu & Kashmir, designated as a Hill & Strategic Corridor, which seeks to integrate fully with the Indian Railways network, increase capacity for passenger and freight traffic, and enable seamless military movement.
Lastly, the NPG considered the development of a 3rd line between Ludhiana–Jalandhar Cantt and a 4th line between Ambala Cantt–Sahnewal (138 km), a project critical for reducing travel times, easing congestion, and augmenting capacity along a vital corridor connecting to Jammu & Kashmir, thereby enhancing national security and logistics for defence purposes.
