Gandhinagar, Sep 3 Gujarat celebrated National Wildlife Day 2025 by highlighting its conservation achievements and growing biodiversity. The Asiatic lion population has risen to 891 as of May 2025, with Gir remaining their natural habitat.
Gujarat also hosts an estimated 1.8 to 2 million migratory birds annually, and its wild ass population grew by 26% to 7,672 in 2024. The state’s coastline supports significant marine life, including 680 dolphins documented in 2024.
The Karuna Abhiyan rescued over 17,000 injured birds in 2025, demonstrating a commitment to wildlife welfare that began during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure and continues with expanded initiatives and public participation.
