Cabinet Clears ₹1,500 Crore Scheme to Boost Critical Mineral Recycling

New Delhi, Sep 03 The Union Cabinet approved a Rs.1,500 crore Incentive Scheme to boost the recycling capacity for critical minerals from secondary sources, supporting the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM).

This six-year scheme (FY 2025-26 to FY 2030-31) targets e-waste, Lithium Ion Battery (LIB) scrap, and other scrap like catalytic converters. It offers incentives for both new and existing recycling units, focusing on critical mineral extraction. Incentives include a 20% Capex subsidy and an Opex subsidy based on incremental sales, with individual entity ceilings of Rs.50 crore for large and Rs.25 crore for small entities.

The scheme is projected to create 270 kilo ton of annual recycling capacity, yield 40 kilo ton of critical minerals annually, attract Rs.8,000 crore in investment, and generate approximately 70,000 jobs.
