The passport of the project proposal for establishing theInVitro plant breeding laboratory

The applicant organization:

LLC “INTERTRADE INVEST”, under the Association “OZBEKOZIQOVQATZAKHIRA”, the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Main activity:

LLC “INTERTRADE INVEST” – is the center, which will assist in developing of export of agricultural and other products, produced by domestic manufacturers. The center will support not only the members of the Association “OZBEKOZIQOVQATZAXIRA” but also other business entities, which are functioning in the field of conformity assessment of the products as well as engineering of the new productions and supplying the products in the markets in prescribed manner.

• The center assists to entrepreneurs in terms of the technical audit of the production, taking into account the requirements of international standards and other regulations, as well as providing consultations on the organization of modern production for processing agricultural products and others.

• The Center carries out diagnostics of various types of agricultural and horticultural products of the disease according to the requirements.

• The center studi products requirements and brings them in accordance with regulations on products and services as well as contributing in the implementation of export.

The aim of the project:

•establishing of domestic production of seedlings using the innovative technologies of micro propagation;

• obtain genetically uniform planting material;

• release of plants from viruses by meristem culture produce;

• reducingthe duration of the selection process;

• accelerating the transition from juvenile plants to the reproductive phase of development;

• multiplication of plants that aredifficult to propagated by traditional methods;

• the possibility of work for a year and saving space required for the cultivation of planting material;

Mass production of plants seedlings by the InVitro micro propagationmethods will give the opportunity to be independent of imports most important crops in the Republic:

-All stone fruit and fruit trees

-All ornamental and flowering plants,

-Price species of trees (Paulownia, trypan tree, cherry, etc.)

-grapes and all fruit crops

-potato, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and others.

-Create domestic seed companies to create their own plantations, as well as for export.

Currently, in addition to cotton and wheat seeds are imported all the other cultures.

Import market of this is about 30-50 million. US dollars and the created laboratory has all chances to cover at least 70% of this market in the next 3-5 years and can sell products worth over 20 million US dollars per year.

Imported plants brought to Uzbekistan, do not grow or do not give fruit.

Typically, poor growth and the lack of fruiting imported seedlings have two reasons: they are not adapted to our temperature and soil conditions, and poor care.

Brought seedlings often have a variety of diseases.

The price of brought seedlings ranged from $ 1.5 per apple sapling to $ 6. Importing countries: Turkey, Greece, Spain, Germany, Poland and Holland. Qualitative cherry seedlings have cost at least $ 15, since the retail price of 1 cherry sapling in a hardware store in Vienna is 29.90 Euro.

Currently in Uzbekistan scholars achieved significant progress in micro propagation of plants: in the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan receive line of virus-free potato, SE Center High paulownia technology (wood with valuable timber), Research Institute Mirzaev (former Research Institute Schroeder.) Several varieties of cherries , grapes, etc.

The main disease brought seedlings of the same, as in Uzbekistan: instability to cold, soil, various viruses, bacteria and fungi. But if local varieties have developed resistance to at least the temperature and soil have brought stability to these factors. While all imported varieties are more productive than our local varieties and with proper testing and selection can produce a fantastic harvest.

Tasks of the projects:

  • Studying and preparing of documents, including a list of the necessary measuring instruments and equipment to create a laboratory taking into account the international requirements
  • Equipping laboratories with modern devices, test equipment, as well as competent professionals in the field of plant micro propagation.
  • The introduction of international experience in the creation and development of new test methods, the introduction of modern standards of quality and performance based on a thorough study of international best practices.
  • Protection of the domestic market from low-quality products.
  • The introduction of the requirements of international standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 22000, ISO 14001 certification and Organic Global G.A.P. system.

Expected results:

Establishingthe laboratory will allow in increasing the mix of healthy agricultural products, increase the volume of exports of domestic products, will provide savings of foreign currency, will help reduce prices for consumers, as well as the protection of domestic market from low-quality products.

Using virus-free planting materials for orchards in combination with optimal scientifically substantiated zoning of crops and varieties, as well as evidence-based schemes of disposition of plants in plantations forming systems and adhering to a high level of agricultural technology, we can achieve the highest yield of fruit, berry and other crops.

Expected period of realization:

2016-2017 gg.

The total amount of the project:

1 500 000 dollars. USA.

The required amount of the grant:

1 500 000 US dollars

Estimated costs:

The total amount of funding depends on the volume of production and the needs of the republic. If a company plans to produce about 100 thousand seedlings and saplings of 100 thousand per year, the amount of funding should include:

a) Laboratory micro propagation: 500 000 $

• one-time funding (equipment, infrastructure)

• consumables for production (reagents, small equipment, jars, cups and so on wage employees (20 people): utilities:

b) climatic chamber: 500 000 $

• 100 m2 -fully controlled cabinets to grow test-tube plants: the estimated cost of about

• 200 m2 – offices for acclimatization tube plants:

c) greenhouses: 200 000 $

• 0.2 – 1.0 g for further growing seedlings and cooking to sales:

d) testing each micro propagation phase, analysis of soil, water, plant fertilizers used for the presence of infection.

The total area of the laboratory: ≈ 120 m2

The approximate cost of the basic equipment and reagents: 300 000 $

Cost of one sapling

The cost price of one seedling is dependent on many factors and usually ranges from $ 0.7 to $ 4.0. For example, the cost of seedlings of sweet cherry can cost up to $ 5.

For the year can produce more than 100 thousand. Seedlings and sell for $ 8-10.

Nowadays all rootstocks and scions are imported.

The main objective of the study of the experience of the farmers of Uzbekistan brought with scions and rootstocks (there are farmers who already have 6-7 years of sweet cherry plantation, growing well with the stock) and testing them in the first place to chill and for various soil conditions. It will take a couple of years. After that you can safely offer selected rootstock, scion seedlings and ready.

Total expenses on equipment, supplies for production, staff salaries, utility costs of $ 1.5 million US dollars.
