HMAI ( Homoeopathic Medical Association of India) Delhi State Branch organised its much-awaited Hahnemann Day Celebrations and CME on Acute Stroke at Dr B. R. Sur Homoeopathic Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, Nanakpura, Moti Bagh, New Delhi on 16 April 2023 informed Dr. A.K.Gupta ,President HMAI Delhi State. STROKE is BRAIN ATTACK either due to Blood Clott in Brain or Brain Haemorrhage (Bleeding in Brain).
Dr. A.K.Gupta welcomes Dr. Rajul Aggarwal
Dr. Rajul Aggarwal explained everything in detail yet in simple language the Symptoms, Causes, Investigations, Preventive measures, Prognosis etc.
Symptoms indicating STROKES are
Sudden Weakness or Numbness in extremities
Sudden Confusion, Slurrred Speech
Sudden Vision loss
Difficulty in Walking
Sudden Severe Headache
It’s important to act F.A.S.T to identity Stroke. The best Emergency treatment works if Stroke is recognised & diagnosed within 3 hours of the first symptom.
Ischemic Stroke patients need immediate Thrombolysis treatment said Dr.Aggarwal for minimising chances of Brain damage and death.
By observing these 3 simple signs/symptoms one can identify Stroke.
F – Face: Asking the person to smile. Does one side of the face droops ?
A – Arms: Asking the person raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
S – Speech: Asking the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the Speech Slurred or strange?
T – Time ; If you see any these signs. Act promptly .Consider it an Emergency ,act accordingly emphasised Dr.Gupta and said that awareness of this and timely action can save many lives .
It is always too important to hurry whenever there is any suspect of Stroke or TIA (Transitional Ischemic Attack) it is better to be wrong than late said he.
When timely medical management is given, we can save majority of lives and that too with good quality of life of Stroke patients. Post-op care outcome is indirectly proportional to the time in which patient reports in a hospital. The sooner the patient is brought bright are the chances of good recovery.
Once Stroke / TIA happens, and there is delay in medical management, we have to deal the secondary outcomes of the disease and patient offen suffers with them for months and years. Re-occurences are quite common in such patients.
There is a dictim that never miss the medication- whatever the mode of treatment one takes, one has to follow it religiously without ifs and buts. It is important to reduce the disease burden and to improve the quality of life. It is not necessary that medications which run for life long in conventional treatment but whatever the case is, take it according to your treating physician.
Risk factors and weather plays a crucial role. Stroke happens more in winters, in elderly, in patients having risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, smoking, stress, etc. Try to curb the risk factors. Prevention is always better than cure.
Follow the latest protocols – today, medical managements are safer, easier to adopt and logical. Be a part of the team. Even a general physician has a role to play as in majority of the cases, it is the GP who refers the suspected patient to higher centre for assessments and medical management. Every major hospital now a days have teams rather than individual doctors to tackle such situations. It is important from holistic point of view.
Homeopathic management of Stroke and TIA was discussed. The discussion was elaborately joined by the attendees as it was an open house discussion. Practicing physicians put forwarded their experiences and challenges while handling such cases. Dr. Pritam Singh, Dr. A.K.Gupta, Dr. Neeraj Pasricha. Dr. Gagandeep Singh. Dr. Saurav Arora, Dr. Shalini Kaila, Dr. Varun, Dr.Poonam Chablani actively shared their views and success stories of treating and curing Stroke and Post Stroke patients.
It is advisable to guide patient to nearest hospital / medical centre for assessment if the patient is suspected of Stroke or TIA.
Homoeopathic doctors can provide the basic first aid remedies in such situations, but should maintain proper documentation of each case.
Homeopathy has been able to show efficacy in such patients both in acute phase and especially in chronic phases, which should be appended with medical / surgical management wherever needed .
There are many remedies such as Amyl nitrous, Causticum, Gelsemium, Pulsatilla, Anacardium, etc which have proven to be beneficial in post-op cases.
It was felt that one should not be in hurry while repeating the medicines always, it should be done according to need of patient and circumstances.
