REC signs MoU with Teach for India, under CSR


New Delhi, July 21 : Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (RECL), under its Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Teach for Lead for supporting 10 classrooms in Municipal Schools in the Northern and Eastern parts of Delhi for the academic year 2014-15. Through the partnership they are working to improve the learning levels of students in the identified MCD schools with an overall objective to fundamentally transform the life-paths of the children.

The project is called RECL Super Classrooms and caters to some of the poorest communities that Teach For India works within the city. The project will focus on providing students with academic support and instruction in English and Maths while additionally enduring values and mindsets in the students to ensure them become empowered citizens in the future.On 18th July 2014 the yearlong partnership was formally launched at the Jahangirpuri, D-Block-I (Girls)- Nigam Pratibha Vidyalaya school by of Shri P J Thakkar, Director (Technical) of RECL.

Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (RECL), incorporated on July 25, 1969 under the Companies Act 1956, is a listed NAVRATNA Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, engaged in financing and promoting power generation, transmission, distribution and renewable energy projects all over the country. It provides financial assistance to State Utilities, State Government Departments and Companies in the Public, Joint and Private sector.

Teach For India is commonly known as an organization working to provide excellent education to children from low-income communities studying in Government and low-income private schools in 6 cities in India – Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. In Delhi, Teach For India is working with 75 schools and with over 9,600 children to provide them high quality education with a special focus on English and Mathematics.
