RailTel and CSC e-Governance Services India Ltd. sign MOU to leverage each other’s Strength to bridge Digital Divide


New Delhi, Dec 03: RailTel and CSC e-Governance Services India Limited have signed MOU for partnership to leverage each other’s strength for increasing broadband penetration in rural/ semi urban areas for bridging the digital divide. While RailTel is one of the largest neutral Telecom Service and ICT solutions provider having pan India presence, e-Governance Services India Limited is enabling rural population with host of e-governance services for digital inclusion.

CSC e-Governance Services India Limited is a Special Purpose vehicle (SPV) under Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The key stakeholder of the CSC scheme are the Village Level Entrepreneur (VLE). The VLEs actively provide various online public utility, financial services and quality healthcare, apart from boosting entrepreneurship/employment in villages and smaller towns across the country.

RailTel has already set up about 200 RailWire Saathi kiosks at rural/semi urban Railway stations which will now be operated by Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) of CSC.  This will e-enable citizens by providing various digital services and will also create awareness about RailWire services in rural areas.

RailTel also has 6070 PoPs (Point of Presence) on its network out of which 5000 arein rural areas. Utilizing these rural PoPs RailTel, in partnership with CSC, will deliver broadband services to rural areas.

Talking about the partnership, Sh. Puneet Chawla, CMD/RailTel, said, ‘We are happy to join hands with CSC to utilize our telecom infrastructure across country to extend broadband services to masses and increase value proposition to CSC and its VLE partners. Together we can help GOI initiative for digital inclusion which will go a long way in bridging the digital divide and fulfil the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of Digital India.’

Talking about the partnership with RailTel, Dr. Dinesh Kumar Tyagi, MD ,CSC-SPV, said, ‘Our partnership with RailTel will help us leverage the connectivity that Railtel has at the last mile. It will also allow railway commuters and citizens in the vicinity of railway stations to access various services through CSC”

‘RailWire’ (RailTel’s retail broadband service) is FTTH (Fibre to the Home) based broadband services (B2C) based on collaborative business model and 40% of its last mile service partners are in rural areas. CSC has a base of 4.3 lac village level entrepreneurs which are based in Rural areas. RailTel plans to leverage complementing strength of CSC to broaden it’s broadband users.
